August 2021 Forecast

August 3

I don’t know about you, but August snuck up on me. All of a sudden, I woke up to August 1. This month is overall pretty nice astrologically. We get Mercury and Venus in their domiciles mid-month, a couple of interesting lunations, and a few other small twists and turns.

August 1 – Sun conjunct Mercury & both opposed by Saturn

From the moment I opened my eyes on the first day of August, I had such a rough day that I couldn’t even bring myself to write one word of the forecast, hence this delayed post. You might have felt the same depending on what was going on in your chart. At the very least, this was a day for heavy reflection, and I’m glad it’s behind me.

August 3 – Venus trine & Mercury square Uranus

Sudden insights are possible today as we move away from the Sun-Saturn opposition and into some Uranus territory. (I am biased towards Uranus and would take it any day of the week over Saturn.) Regardless, I think there’s a bit more levity with this shift forward.

August 6 – Sun square Uranus

A few surprises could come our way today as the Sun squares Uranus, but overall, I don’t see this as making too much of an impact.

August 8 – New Moon in Leo

Here’s our New Moon at 16 degrees of Leo occurring at 9:50 am EDT, ushering in new creative and fertile ground for setting intentions.

It’s a great time to ignite your inner creative spark, celebrate yourself and your individuality, go on an adventure or take a risk, step into a leadership position, start a new romance, take up a new hobby, give birth to a creative venture or just have fun.

This feisty Leo Moon urges us to flaunt our talents, sparkle and bask in the attention. There’s no more creative, theatrical and fun-loving sign than the Lion.

Check the house where the New Moon will fall in your chart, and set your intention based on the themes of that house.

August 9 – Venus opposition Neptune

Every couple of months, there’s a “play hooky” day… and this would be August’s. Enjoy your dream world today. Whatever happens may not last, so bask in the impermanence of the day. Live for the moments of beauty and don’t put labels on things. Just be.

August 11 – Mercury enters Virgo

Today, Mercury—the Messenger God—enters Virgo. I have to say, Mercury in Virgo is such a great placement, and if I could have my Mercury anywhere, I would have it in Virgo. The cool reasoning powers alone are so admirable. While Mercury in Gemini is also an awesome placement, Virgo here strips Mercury of any jitters or of inclinations to speculate or gossip. It deals with the cold, hard facts and has amazing powers of analysis and retention. This will be a very valuable placement over the next few weeks, so let’s enjoy it!

August 16 – Venus enters Libra

Hip, hip, hooray! Who doesn’t love this placement? This is Venus at her best—congenial, balanced, peaceful and yet bubbling with kindness (and maybe even a little romance). She’s here until September 10, so make the most of this sweet spot.

If you were born with Venus in Libra, you are one lucky duck. As someone with Venus in Aries, I literally have to ask myself daily, “What would someone with Venus in Libra do in this situation?” And when I come to the answer, I know to pull a Costanza (i.e. do the opposite of my instincts), and things continue smoothly.

August 18 – Mercury conjunct Mars

You may find communications a bit more Aries-like today (quick and blunt). Be mindful in tempering a tendency towards hastiness.

August 19 – Sun opposition Jupiter & Uranus retrograde

Uranus stations retrograde at 14 degrees of Taurus and will continue its retrograde motion right through to the end of the year. Those with planets in fixed signs from about 10 to 14 degrees are especially going to feel the heat as this unpredictable planet makes it way backwards. (It will hit 10 degrees in January before resuming a direct motion.) This is the last time Uranus will retrograde back into the 10-13 degree range in Taurus, so get through the retrograde motion over the rest of 2021 and then the direct motion in early 2022, and its impact should be much less for you throughout the rest of next year. I find Uranus has a pretty accurate 2 degree orb of influence; once you get outside of this 2 degree orb, you’re outside the eye of the storm and more easily able to navigate.

The Sun opposes Jupiter this same day which can add a larger than life feel and a penchant for excess. I say go with it and enjoy it because in a couple of days a Virgo Sun will cool down the party.

August 22 – Full Moon in Aquarius & Sun enters Virgo

What an interesting day today is! We start off with a Full Moon in Aquarius (our second one in a month) at 8 am EDT. This Full Moon sits close to Jupiter and has a much different feel than our previous Full Moon last month which had more Saturn undertones. There’s a sense of possibility and hope, of blossoming into something quite beautiful. As we catch the tail end of the Sun in Leo and Moon in Aquarius opposition, the Moon quickly shifts into Pisces. Then around dinner time, the Sun leaves the party and heads into sobering Virgo where it will spend the next month.

It’s no coincidence that the sign associated with work, health and service falls towards the end of August each year as we all realize our fun summers are over. We turn our attentions to getting back to school, back to work, and back to reality. No sign can help us get back on track like Virgo can.

August 24 – Mercury opposition Neptune

Here’s a possibly rough day for communications… at the very least, things could be unclear. Don’t fret. Give it a couple of days for Mercury to clear Neptune’s pink fog, and try again.

August 30 – Mercury enters Libra

On the second last day of the month, we see Mercury move into Libra. Look, Mercury likes being in air signs as well, and there are parts of Mercury in Libra that work really well here: the ability to see both sides, an innate diplomacy and tact, and even a proclivity for beautiful words. There can be some paralysis-by-analysis though; seeing both sides of any situation can be crippling. However, mindfully committing to one side or the other can still be achieved with help from a calculating Virgo Sun.
